Abstract
A limiting and characteristic infrared spectrum was obtained for the purified salt and acid forms of colanic acid. The spectra reveal the presence of an amino functional group which might be a constituent part of the intrinsic structure of this acidic polysaccharide, but which more probably is associated with a strongly adsorbed basic contaminant. Keywords
