Solid-state vibrational laser—KBr:CN^−

Abstract
Laser oscillation at 2054 cm−1 has been observed from a vibrational transition of the CN molecule doped into KBr host crystals. At sufficiently large CN concentrations, population inversion between the υ = 2 and υ = 1 vibrational levels is created by optical pumping of the 0 → 1 transition followed by an efficient vibrational-energy exchange process.
