THYROID UPTAKES BY HUMAN BEINGS FOLLOWING ORAL ADMINISTRATION OF DIFFERENT I131PREPARATIONS1

Abstract

The "extraneous band" solutions were obtained from one- to two-week-old Na131 solutions by paper chromatographic separation and elution procedure described earlier. Fresh solutions of NaI131 which contain over 90% of the radioactivity in the NaI131 band were used for studies with NaIl31. Effect of pH 3.0 on the stability of the NaIl31 solutions and of the "extraneous band" solutions was studied. The results show that, at pH 3.0, about 90% of the "extraneous band" is converted to NaI131 band within ten minutes. Studies on the uptake of orally administered NaI131 solution or the "extraneous band" solution by human thyroid glands indicate the same uptake of the NaI131 solution as compared to the "extraneous band" solution.
