Abstract
Spleen-shielding protected strain A mice completely against mortality after 550 r. In contrast, mortality in spleen-shielded C57 black mice attained 23%, despite a lower final death rate in controls of this strain. There were histologic differences between the shielded spleens of the 2 strains, suggesting that the protection effect of spleen-shielding may be related to the importance of the spleen in the hematopoietic system of each strain. Keywords
