SCLEREDEMA ADULTORUM (BUSCHKE)

Abstract
The recent observation of two patients who presented the clinical picture of scleredema adultorum of Buschke is the subject of this report. Although well recognized in Germany and by some French writers, this disease has received little attention elsewhere. REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE Buschke,1in 1902, was the first to distinguish scleredema adultorum as a clinical entity, and he reported a classic case in that year. He adopted the name "scleredema adultorum" because he thought it resembled sclerema of infants. Since that time, forty additional cases have been reported. Of the entire number, thirty-nine were found in the German literature and two in the French. Buschke,2Hoffmann,3Nobl,4Sellei,5Rummert,6Mayr7and Freund8have made important contributions to the subject. The following table gives all of the reported cases that could be found, presented in the order of their publication. Two cases
