Phosphokinase Activity of the Mammary Gland

Abstract

Mammary gland tissue homogenates phosphorylated glucose, fructose, mannose, and maltose. Glucokinase activity was stimulated by added Mg ion. Glucose and mannose were phosphorylated at a max. rate at lower substrate concns. than fructose and maltose. Phosphorylation of lactose and galactose did not occur at a significant rate. The evidence indicated that a direct phosphorylation of maltose occurred.
