Estimation of Time-Response Curves and Their Confidence Bands

Abstract
Three methods of analysis are indicated for data consisting of responses at different time points for a number of individuals (I) a multivariate method due to Rao, (II) a univariate method that assumes complete independence of all the observations and (HI) another univariate method, based on a mixed model, with less stringent assumptions. An example shows that Method II, though usually quite adequate for estimation, should not be used to test the fit of a model, nor to obtain confidence intervals; Methods I and III give similar confidence intervals for the parameters of the model and for the mean response curve.
