Über den Abbau von Ketonkörpern.

Abstract
Comparison of concs. of the ketone bodies (acetone, di-acetic acid, beta-hydroxybutyric acid) in the liver of pancreatectomized cats with those for urine, showed that large amts. were destroyed in the body. Capacities of liver and muscle to destroy ketone bodies were studied in cats whose liver or hindquarters were perfused with defibrinated cat''s blood rich in these substances. Considerable ketone oxidation took place in the muscle; muscles of pancreatectomized cats oxidised ketones as intensely as those of normal cats. Breakdown of ketones by the liver was not found. Fat might serve as a source of muscle energy through transformation of fatty acids into ketones in the liver and the entrance of the latter into the blood.
