Idiopathic epiretinal membranes were observed in 6 patients, all under 35 yr of age. The clinical features were similar to those of idiopathic epiretinal membranes seen in older age groups. The center of the membrane was located over a large retinal vessel in 5 of the patients. Follow-up periods, mostly without surgery, ranged from 4 mo. to 9 yr. Fluctuating levels of vision were observed, but the vision eventually improved in 3 patients, and remained stable in 2 others. In 1 patient the vision worsened, and vitreous surgery was used to remove the epiretinal membrane, resulting in improved vision.
