Abstract
While spacer-type aerial cable has been relatively immune to storm and tree hazards, many instances of failure caused by lightning surges have been experienced by the Public Service Electric and Gas Company. To determine the estimated lightning performance of this type of distribution system, a program of field tests, laboratory tests, and analytical computations was performed. This paper presents the results of the field and laboratory tests, with performance curves for various lightning arrester applications. This work is one of several such studies initiated by the Public Service Electric and Gas Company. Keywords
