The Most Effective Termite Repellents

Abstract
A sample of very susceptible wood, submerged 10 min. in a soln. of Cu pentachlorphenate at 0.1%, has been uneaten by the West Indian dry-wood termite, Cryptotermes brevis, for 4 years. The water-soluble Na pentachlorphenate is almost as effective, and 0.5% of ferric, cupric and zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate, alpha-naphthoflavone, xanthone, pyridyl mercuric chloride and stearate, and the zinc lake (acetic acid) of chrysazin have made wood resistant to attack for shorter periods. Wood treated with 2% solns. of DDT and pentachlorphenol has not been damaged for nearly 5 yrs.
