PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS IN THE ETIOLOGY OF DIABETES

Abstract
Twenty-two cases of mental disorder associated with diabetes studied at a psychiatric hospital revealed 5 cases in which the course of the carbo-hydrate metabolism disorder closely paralleled that of the mental disturbance and several others which suggested the possibility of a causal relationship between the two. Summaries and astracts of the 5 cases are presented. It is presumed that the mental disorder is the result of psychological conflicts. The close parallelism of the metabolic disturbance to the mental disturbance suggests that this metabolic disorder may also be the result of the emotional conflicts.
