Abstract
Small amts. of serum from patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, chronic lymphoid leukemia, monocytic leukemia and Hodgkin''s disease were given by intraperiton. injn. to guinea pigs. Minimal changes in the liver, spleen, adrenal and bone marrow occurred, these being similar to the changes reported following injn. of urine extracts from patients with similar diseases. The lymph nodes of these animals, however, showed striking changes with a destruction of lymphocytes and an increase in fibrous tissue following injn. with serum from patients with chronic myeloid leukemia and an increase in lymphopoiesis following injn. with serum from patients with chronic lymphoid leukemia. The serum from patients with Hodgkin''s disease and monocytic leukemia gave a mixed reaction in the lymph nodes, while the serum from normal individuals gave little or no reaction. The changes in the lymph nodes elicited from serum of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia were compared with those which occur after the use of cortisone.
