Abstract
The empirical relationship between anomie and suicidal individuals is largely overlooked by sociologists and psychologists. This article reports on whether (a) suicidal individuals are anomic and (b) whether anomie increases monotonically in nonsuicidal individuals to serious suicide attempters. The Srole anomie scale was administered to 60 serious suicidal subjects, 60 not-so-serious suicidal subjects, and to 60 nonsuicidal subjects. The results show that anomie as measured by the Srole scale is positively related to the degree of lethality. Keywords
