Charge-Transfer Spectra of Matrix-Isolated 3d Transition-Metal Dichlorides

Abstract
The charge‐transfer spectra of MnCl2, FeCl2, CoCl2, and NiCl2 molecules isolated in argon matrices near 4.2°K have been measured. The results are consistent with the d‐configuration ground states 6Σ , 5Δ , 4φ , and 3π deduced in earlier work from gas‐phase Laporte‐forbidden absorption spectra of these molecules.
