Chronic Arthritis in Goats Caused by a Retrovirus

Abstract
A virus was isolated from an adult goat with chronic arthritis and shown to belong to the retrovirus group by electron microscopy and biochemical methods. Inoculation of the virus into cesarean-derived specific-pathogen-free goats' kids produced arthritic lesions similar to those in the spontaneous disease. Virus was reisolated from the experimentally induced lesions.
