McCarthy Scales and WISC-R

Abstract
Late in 1975 and during spring 1976 the McCarthy Scales of Children''s Abilities and WISC-R [Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised] were administered to 51 second-graders. The WISC-R was administered first to 25 children and the McCarthy scales first to the remaining 26, with the interval between tests ranging 1-18 days with mean interval of 3 days. There were 27 female and 24 male children (28 Hispanic and 23 non-Hispanic). The correlations between the McCarthy General Cognitive Index with the WISC-R Verbal, Performance and Full Scale IQ were respectively .65, .62, and .75. For this group of children the following means and SD were reported: McCarthy General Cognitive Index 97.6 and 10.2; WISC-R Verbal IQ 99.5 and 15.9; Performance IQ 99.2 and 12.9; and Full Scale IQ 99.2 and 13.9. The relationship of the McCarthy scales to the WISC-R was similar to the relationship reported in the manual between the WPPSI [Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence] and the McCarthy Scales.
