Dielectric, piezoelectric, and electromechanical coupling constants of zinc oxide crystals

Abstract
Experimental values of the dielectric, piezoelectric, and electromechanical coupling constants have been measured for zinc oxide which differ significantly from some of the previously peblished data. The values of dielectric constants and length-extensional (d 31 ) and thickness-extensional (d 33 ) mode constants have been determined by conventional techniques which corroborate earlier published data. A value of thickness shear (d 15 ) mode has been determined which agrees with experimental constants determined by the use of rotated cuts. A complete set of piezoelectric is given for zinc oxide (d 15 = -8.3 × 10 -12 , d 31 = -5.0 × 10 -12 , d 33 = +12.4 × 10 -12 C/N).
