The Role of Predatory Agents in the Artificial Control of the Mountain Pine Beetle

Abstract

The possibility of destroying broods of Dendroctonus monticolae by removing the bark from infested trees was studied by caging expts. Exposed broods could transform to the adult stage if feeding had been completed. However, under normal conditions with no protection, ants, centipedes, and small mammals destroyed the immature beetles after exposure by peeling the trees.
