Gaucher's disease Factors affecting the 4-methylum-belliferyl-β-D-glucosidase activity of cultured skin fibroblasts

Abstract
Phosphate-buffered saline inhibited acid .beta.-glucosidase activity of cultured cells. This effect was attributable to both the pH and the chloride content of the phosphate-buffered saline. Washing the cells in sucrose (0.25 M) to remove residual phosphate-buffered saline effectively eliminated this inhibition.
