Abstract
THE purpose of this paper is to present the experience at the Massachusetts General Hospital in the treatment of acute cholecystitis from 1943 to 1953 inclusive. During this time the concepts and methods of treatment of this disease have been relatively uniform, and it was believed that valuable information could be obtained from an analysis of this experience. A comparison of the mortality and morbidity resulting from surgical treatment of the acute phase of cholecystitis with that attending similar surgical procedures in the chronic or interval phase of the disease is also given.MaterialAll 716 patients with acute cholecystitis . . .
