INABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE A PLATELET REDUCING SUBSTANCE IN AN ACETONE EXTRACT OF THE SPLEEN FROM PATIENTS WITH IDIOPATHIC THROMBOCYTOPENIC PURPURA 1

Abstract

The spleen was obtained from each of 3 patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. An acetone extract was prepared from each of these organs in a manner identical to that described by Troland and Lee. Portions of each extract were administered intraven. to 3 rabbits and the effect on the number of blood platelets observed. Throughout each of the 3 sets of observations (9 expts.) the platelet counts remained essentially unchanged.
