Abstract
PREVIOUS work1 from this laboratory has demonstrated that certain patients with myeloproliferative disorders with hepatosplenomegaly have enhanced reticuloendothelial function as indicated by ability to clear colloidal material (denatured albumin) from the circulation at greater than normal rates. Thorbecke et al.2 have shown that acid phosphatase activity in mouse liver rises upon progressive stimulation of the reticuloendothelial system in these animals. It therefore seemed of interest to test the serum of cases of myeloproliferative disease for increased acid phosphatase activity.MethodsPatients with proved diagnoses of chronic granulocytic leukemia or myeloid metaplasia were tested for serum acid phosphatase activity with beta-glycerophosphate . . .Keywords
