TYPICAL ANAPHYLAXIS IN THE DOG IN THE ABSENCE OF THE LIVER

Abstract
Dogs were sensitized to horse serum previously treated with alum. The livers were removed under ether anesthesia by a one-stage operative procedure. While still anesthetized and receiving glucose to prevent hypoglycemia each animal was given an intraven. injn. of antigen. Typical anaphylactic shock followed, as shown by the prompt and profound fall in the blood pressure and by the tonic contraction of the urinary bladder. Bladder contraction has previously been attributed to the action of toxic material liberated from the liver of the shocked animal.
