Abstract
Hyphae of a phyco-mycetous mycorrhizal fungus growing on an agar medium were wounded by drawing a cold needle across them. The resulting dead hyphal sections were quickly separated from the living hyphae by septa. In 4 or more hours hyphae developed from just behind these septa and grew along the outside of the dead section until they met and their growing points fused. As a result living "bridges" were produced across the dead sections.
