Regulation of carbohydrate metabolism in spinal cord injuries

Abstract
Patients with cervical spinal cord injuries show a higher oral glucose tolerance curve than dorsal and lumbar cases. Intravenous glucose tolerance curves and response to injected insulin are substantially the same in cervical and dorsolumbar injuries. Epinephrine injected intravenously produces a significantly greater hyperglycemic response in dorosolumbar patients, suggesting that suprasegmental influences are effective.
