Abstract
An analysis of a consecutive series of 1189 autopsies revealed the presence of varices in 8%(95)of the cases. Varices, in addition to being present in cases of cirrhosis of the liver, were frequently encountered unassociated with portal hypertension. The varices were present in all portions of the esophagus and were not limited to any one segment, according to the associated disease process, as has been previously presumed.[long dash]Tobias Weinberg.
