Stramonium Poisoning in "Teeny-Boppers"

Abstract
More than 20 cases of self-induced stramonium poisoning were seen during the summer of 1967 among 13-18 year old teeny-boppers in Denver. The stramonium was taken in order to produce a psychedelic experience. It was obtained in an over-the-counter asthma preparation called Asthmador. This powder was boiled into a teaand drunk by the youngsters. Stramonium poisoning due to Asthmador tea is characterized by agitation, hallucination, stupor, mydriasis, and urinary retention. All of the patients recovered completely with supportive and custodial care.
