The action of crystalline vitamin B1 on the respiration of polyneuritic tissues in vitro

Abstract
The addition of vit. B1 has no significant effect on the O2 uptake of polyneuritic muscle, heart or liver in vitro, but causes a large and statistically significant increase in respiration of polyneuritic kidney. The respiration of the polyneuritic kidney in the presence of lactate is significantly lower than that of the normal kidney; the addition of vit. B1 largely restores this defect.
