Search for Radiochemical Evidence for Ternary Fission ofU235by Thermal Neutrons

Abstract
Upper limits for yields of certain isotopes of argon from fission of U235 by thermal neutrons were determined radiochemically as follows: Ar37, ≤1×107%; Ar39, ≤4×107%; Ar41, ≤3×109%; Ar42, ≤3×1011%. The upper limit for the fission yield of Co56 (daughter of Ni56) was determined as ≤8×108%. The yields of these isotopes are three to seven orders of magnitude lower than those expected from thermal-neutron-induced ternary fission of U235 as described by Muga.
