Abstract
In darkened nucleate and enucleate cell parts of the uninuclear marine green alga Acetabularia mediterranea the protein content decreases. This holds for the total protein as well as for chloroplast protein. It seems, that also a decrease of cytoplasmic protein occurs, but that it is masked by protein released from the chlloroplast fraction. No difference could be found between the decrease of the protein in nucleate and enucleate cell parts. Beside the total protein decrease a transport of stalk protein into the rhizoids occurs in the nucleate parts. The results are compared with those found at starving nucleate and enucleate halves of Amoeba.
