Abstract
ENROLLMENT OF Medicaid beneficiaries in managed care health plans has grown remarkably in recent years. Between 1990 and 1996, enrollment increased more than 5-fold from 2.3 million to more than 13.3 million people.1,2 Approximately 40% of all Medicaid beneficiaries now belong to managed care organizations. The most rapidly growing format of managed care contracting is capitation, and capitated health plans now account for 70% of the Medicaid managed care market.3Keywords
