Abstract
KI: Tl was excited with linearly polarized light in each of the four impurity-absorption bands. At temperatures below 30°K, the emission was strongly polarized in some of the emission bands. Excitation in the A band yields polarized emission in the 3356-Å band. Excitation in the B and C absorption bands yields polarized emission in the 2870- and 2783-Å emission bands, respectively, and no detectable polarization in the 3078-, 3356-, or 4300-Å emission bands. These facts are interpreted using a model previously introduced for thallous-ion emission.
