A method is described for immobilizing and anesthetizing frogs by intracranial injn. of approx. 0.5 cc. of a 3-5% solution of novocaine. The anesthesia which follows a short stage of excitation lasts about 1 hr. It is followed by complete recovery. During the anesthesia the behavior of reflexes and the influence of the position of the animal on leg reflexes and croak reflexes were studied. During the time of recovery a kind of nystagmus equivalent appeared spontaneously, or it could be provoked as a reflex by touching the eyeball or the belly.
