Abstract
The , scattering amplitudes in the state are parameterized in terms of five parameters which are determined so as to give the meson position and width, the width, and the meson position and its decay width under the assumption that has quantum numbers . These amplitudes are then used to discuss , production processes in terms of a simple peripheral model including , exchanges. The model predicts a large decay rate of , with a cross section comparable to the experimental resonant cross section (the ) observed at approximately the same position as the meson. On the other hand, since the is an particle, this implies that the branching ratio of the decay to that of the decay should be small. This is incompatible with the experimentally observed large branching ratio. Within the limitations of our model, it is therefore unlikely that the meson is a particle.
