THE EFFECT OF CASTRATION ON TUBAL CONTRACTIONS OF THE RABBIT, AS DETERMINED BY THE RUBIN TEST1

Abstract
The character of tubal contractions of 18 living castrated rabbits was compared with that of an equal number of control animals, by uterotubal CO2 gas insufflation. After castration the contractions were less frequent and weaker. The adm. of estrogenic hormones to 14 castrated rabbits resulted in an increase in the rate and height of tubal contractions. The addition of progesterone to 6 of these animals, sensitized with estrogenic substances, resulted in a diminution of the contraction rate in 3 instances and no variation in the remaining 3.
