Abstract
The secondary emission yield of metals by the surface effect is expressed in terms of the surface photo-electric yield for a radiation of frequency and angle of incidence of which is about 52°. It is shown that , where is the primary energy in atomic units, , is the threshold frequency, and depends on the energy of the primary and may be replaced by . For a square-well potential model for a metal, with a relative error of order , where is the Fermi energy.
