Abstract
The secondary emission yield of metals by the surface effect δ is expressed in terms of the surface photo-electric yield y(ω) for a radiation of frequency ω and angle of incidence of invcos12(5121) which is about 52°. It is shown that δ(2παEp)1ω1ω2y(ω)dωω, where Ep is the primary energy in atomic units, α=1137, ω1 is the threshold frequency, and ω2 depends on the energy of the primary and may be replaced by . For a square-well potential model for a metal, δ103Ep with a relative error of order (EFEp)ln(EpEF), where EF is the Fermi energy.
