Recent advances in solid state technology, especially in the millimeter wavelength portion of the spectrum, have made the concept of self- contained munitions a reality. Special self-contained armor defeating munitions usually attack from above where the target is larger and more vulnerable. The sensor elements, millimeter wavelength radar, radiometry, or infrared detectors must operate in a high clutter environment. The sensors, operational as hybrid units or individually, must be able to detect select targets in their natural backgrounds. This report presents details of design and measured data from a unique radar sensor developed at BRL for use with self-contained munitions now under development at ARRADCOM.
