Abstract
The phenomenological Hamada-Johnston nucleon-nucleon potential is modified by replacing the singular hard core with a soft core of the centrifugal type (). It is shown that the fits to experimentally determined elastic scattering phase shifts and deuteron data are little affected by such a modification.
