Polydipsia and Polyuria During Chronic Administration of Levorphanol to Rats.

Abstract
~Chronic subcutaneous administration to male Sprague-Dawley rats of levorphanol (Levo-Dromoran Tartrate) in daily doses of 10 mg/kg increasing to 50 mg/kg over 26 days resulted in polydipsia and polyuria. A fluid exchange of 280 ml water intake and 230 ml urine output per 24 hours was the maximum observed for any one rat. These observations are of interest since levorphanol and its close relative, morphine, are known to produce antidiuretic responses on acute administration.
