Abstract
The synthesis of milk fat in mammary tissue of intact lactating dairy cows was studied following intramammary infusion of C14 labeled fatty acids. The authors demonstrated that milk fatty acids are synthesized within the udder from acetate, propionate, butyrate, and stearate.[long dash]The results, therefore, support an earlier hypothesis for the de novo synthesis of milk fat by mammary tissue. Keywords
