Nuclear Isomerism in Selenium and Krypton

Abstract

A study has been made of the radioactive chain ${\mathrm{Se}}^{83}\to {\mathrm{Br}}^{83}\to {\mathrm{Kr}}^{*83\mathrm{}}.$ The last member is an isomer of the stable krypton of mass 83. An isomeric pair ${\mathrm{Se}}^{79\mathrm{o}\mathrm{r}81}$ has been found and the two genetically related nuclear isomers have been separated chemically. ${\mathrm{Kr}}^{83}$ and ${\mathrm{Br}}^{83}$ are produced by the fission of uranium and thorium as well as by the bombardment of selenium with deuterons and slow neutrons.
