Conformal Symmetry and Reverberations

Abstract

We show that the operator conformal invariance breaks down for zero-mass fields unless they are free fields in even space-time dimension. This phenomenon is linked to the occurrence of "reverberations." We are led to the concept of weak conformal symmetry. In theories with anomalous dimensions we have reverberations and can only maintain weak conformal invariance.
