The Free Amino Groups of the Proteus Flagella Protein. Determination of Dinitrophenyl Amino Acids Using Paper Chromatography.

Abstract
The flagella of Proteus vulgaris consist almost entirely of protein. This protein, cow hemoglobin, and pea albumin have been examined for free amino groups. The flagellum protein contained 55 equiv. of free lysine e -amino groups per 105g. of protein, and 1 equiv. of free alanine amino group. Values for free e -amino groups of hemoglobin and albumin agreed well with those of other investigators.
