Abstract
A physical interpretation of the Landau damping is given based on the Vlasov equations. It is shown that Landau's discussion and Kidal's calculation of resonant energy absorption are equivalent. It is also found possible to compare the analysis based on the Vlasov equations to Dawson's intuitive formulation. Keywords
