Abstract
The period of vegetative growth of surface colonies preceding initiation of conidiophore development is not altered by either glucose concentrations or N sources that can effect enzyme activities. Nutrient depletion is not needed to initiate development of surface colonies. It is suggested that the long period of time of vegetative growth of surface colonies before initiation of development indicates the time required to complete endogenous gene-controlled activity and not that required to deplete exogenous nutrients.
