Measurement of the electric polarizability of the neutron

Abstract
The electric polarizability of the neutron was determined to be αn=(1.20±0.15±0.20)×103 fm3 from its characteristic influence on the energy dependence of the neutron208Pb scattering cross section, as measured in a neutron time-of-flight transmission experiment at the Oak Ridge Electron Linear Accelerator pulsed neutron source.
