Abstract
The reaction between ox corneal collagen and [beta]:[beta]'' dichlorodiethylsulphide (H) has been studied. H combines with collagen to give a product with a higher S content. This compd., unlike normal collagen, swells only slightly in acid soln., is resistant to pepsin digestion, and is insoluble when boiled in dilute acid. H appears to combine with the free carboxyl groups of collagen. The tissue reaction to implanted H collagen is described and it is concluded that some of the characteristics of an H "burn" of the skin or eye may be due to the presence of H collagen in the injured tissue. Keywords
