Abstract
The surface states on CbS single crystals were studied by the transverse field effect. The D. C. field effect revealed that the surface state density increases by light irradiation or by holding crystals in a vacuum. From the pulsed field effect six discrete surface states were found. Their energy levels and capture cross sections were also estimated. The order of the magnitude of the cross section suggests that these levels consist of one attractive and one neutral and four repellent centers.
