Rats were taught to open the lid of a food-box fastened with 14 interlocking latches and to draw up food on end of a string. The main points of interest demonstrated are the persistent direction of behavior towards a goal, and the acquirement of a general facility in solving problems of the type practised, rather than a mere fixed sequence of reactions to particular impressions.
